A big thanks to Madame Brown Photography for sharing this wedding!
Tommy and I met on a 3 week study abroad trip to China between our Sophomore and Junior years of college at UTK. At first I thought he was a little nerdy and awkward, but over the course of the trip I realized that he was really sweet, funny, smart, and well… super nerdy. But that’s perfect because so am I. Our last night we were in Shanghai, and a few of us stayed out late dancing. We flirted, he held my hand, and brushed the hair out of my face to kiss my forehead. It was a little like a fairy tale.
When we got back to the states we kept talking and dating and it wasn’t long before we made it official. Three and a half years later and two moves to different continents (we went back to China after graduating to teach English) and states (I followed him to Virginia where we both attend law school) he proposed on November 12, 2013 on a pier overlooking the James River beautifully full of floating multi-colored leaves under a sky threatening snow. A year and a half later we married on June 15, 2015 at the Grandview in Chattanooga, TN (my hometown).
Our wedding day was only possible because of the immense help of family and friends. A friend of my father’s used to be a wedding planner and she recommended the florist and baker and helped us navigate the many ins and outs of planning a wedding. My beautiful and stylish cousin was nice enough to help with my hair and make up and coordinate our jewelry selections. My mother’s friend heard we were looking for old books and teacups and immediately started picking them up for us on her many antiquing trips.
The most sentimental and extra special thing about our wedding were all these people who were willing and happy to help us make this day wonderful. My favorite part of the day is very hard to choose! I think I most loved the opportunity Tommy and I had to visit with old friends and family we hadn’t seen in years. As for decorative details I loved the flowers in teacups our florist, Mayflowers, did for us that were then placed on old books. And of course, the delicious cakes that Toni at Sweet Angel Cakes made for Tommy and I. They were perfect in every way. The absolute only thing I would have changed was to make the day twice as long, it all went by too fast!
What do you love most about being married? What I most love about being married is that I get to spend the rest of my life with my favorite dork
