Aly & Dan's Real Wedding at The Vineyard at 37 High Holly

We chose Highlands, NC because of it’s special meaning to my family. We have been vacationing there since my sister and me were little. I began taking Dan there for weekend getaways and for hikes and he fell in love with the area too. We have so many amazing memories in Highlands and could not wait to share our favorite place with all of our friends and family.

The morning of the wedding, we woke up to rain. I was so surprised about how calm I felt. Throughout the whole planning process I was worried about the weather with an outdoor ceremony, but we could not imagine getting married anywhere else. That morning, I was just excited to head to the vineyard and get ready with my mom, sister and best friends. I also knew, no matter what weather we had, I would be marrying Dan and nothing else seemed to matter.

I had planned to not have a “first look” because I wanted Dan to see me for the first time walking down the aisle. I quickly changed my mind when the skies cleared and the sun came out after I had finished getting ready. We were all worried the sun would not last and we wouldn't get those beautiful pictures together, outside, in the vineyard. The first look was one of our favorite moments of the day and so special. I wouldn't change that for anything.

We tried to infuse a lot of memorable details into every inch of the weekend. The Vineyard where we were married used to be an apple orchard and shared land with a “General Store” that we used to stop at for candy every time on our way into Highlands as kids. A dear family friend who has known us for a LONG time married us! We had a custom map of the Highlands area made for our invitations which had all our favorite places on it. And we had a custom cake-topper made of us and our beloved cat, Eloise.

Dan and I are high school sweethearts and met in high school health class. We were together nearly 10 years before finally getting married. My parents are also high school sweethearts! We love to travel and chose Thailand and Cambodia for our honeymoon. It was truly the trip of a lifetime and the perfect adventure to start our marriage.

Honestly, not much has changed sine becoming married. We have already been together for many years and know each other so well. We are just enjoying finally being married and looking forward to all of the amazing adventures to come.
